Annoying

The medals piss me off. 6 ground spins? 6 air spins? Sure, that'd be cool, except I don't know how to do either of them. Oh wait, there's a "certain rhythm" to it. That explains a lot, really. After a frustrating 20 minutes trying to work out the "certain rhythm", I find button mashing works perfectly. My reward is to find that when you attempt any consecutive spin combos, the boss turns on his giant spin attack, raping you in the middle of your second combo. All this ass kicking isn't doing wonders for my blue shield bar thingy. Oh fuck, now it's empty! Hey, there's an animation of a finger pressing a red button. I better press the button! Wait, which button? I'll try hitting them all. *Seconds later* hey, none of these buttons seem to be doing anything. Oh wait, I wasn't meant to press anything. Man I'm an idiot. I should have known that the little button animation was actually warning me NOT to press anything!

Great artwork, but fuck the gameplay.

MindChamber responds:

you can hit "any" button to mash out of a dizzy, I didnt think that was so hard to understand, and to get the ground spinning medal, try making sure you are close when the boss is dizzy. and no you cant button mash the air spin, because you bounce up a few section before coming back down and thats when you hit.

sorry you didnt like the game.

Cool

The aborted medal should be worth a million points lol. I went bloody insane trying to get it. Which brings me to the main criticism: there's no replay button. No way of getting back to the menu. No pause button, no mute button. Very irritating. Good challenge though, and the graphics were cool.

FetusFulp responds:

yeah, i get whatcha mean about the replay button. k.

Difficult

There's a steep learning curve here, and while it's a unique idea and fairly enjoyable, not everyone will be willing to "get used to it".

Boring

If it was a little more fast paced or something, that might help. But it's an outdated concept to begin with.

Addictive

I played all 40 days, got all the survivors too. No matter how repetitive it was, it was still oddly satisfying. The bosses really alleviated the repetition. Good stuff man!

Those dogs...

... were awesome. Also, thank you for being one of the few authors on newgrounds to ensure the medals work.

Frustrated

Great game but a few things:

I get actionscript errors when jumping in tight spaces. Happened quite a lot on the level "fill r up". You can't load your progress because of some actionscript error. I also encountered a LOT of unidentified actionscript errors during the game. It's quite a buggy game. Testing is as important in the creative process as making the game.

The spike proximity is randomly unforgiving. It seems all you have to do is land within the atmosphere of the spikes to be shredded. Other times you can pretty much land on the spikes and you don't get hit.

I played all the way to the perfectionist medal. What a fucking waste of time. Fix the medals. You have no idea how frustrating it is to spend so long playing the game, then to be told it was for nothing.

Loved the ending.

Love it

I actually spent 3 solid days and nights levelling up and getting enough money to buy everything. I usually hate that kind of thing. My hat goes off to you sir.

Has Potential

Great idea but the actual game mechanics are bullshit. It was fine until the first boss or whatever took out the blue sword. Then he could suddenly perform unblockable attacks. Attacking him while he charges up the glowing moveclip seemed to work, but then he counterattacks with an entirely unblockable attack, both from attack and defense. This was on beginner too. Either I'm terrible at the game or the game is flawed. Judging from the reviews below me, it's the game. Again, great idea, but the gameplay is retarded. No one wants to play an impossible game.

The artwork needs a little work too. The drawings and animation are alright but the characters need to be darker. The knight in particular looks ridiculous. The azure lighting on the armour contrasts starkly with the darkness around him. Make the lighting on the armour match the lighting around it.

The actual face of the knight looks like any random guy you'd see on the street. If you're going to put a man in armour, make sure he doesn't look like an acne-ridden mcdonalds employee. You've seen the guys in the movies, right? They look like they've killed a few in their time.

The sky background for the menu looks horrible. Don't combine illustrated characters with photographs. It makes you look lazy and your characters look crap. I went onto google images and found the picture you used within the space of seconds.

I apologise in advance if you think I'm criticising you unfairly. Constructive criticism never does sound nice, does it? :P

Impressed

The theme of death in the pixellated b/w setting worked very well. It really added to the surreal mood. The gameplay was a little unforgiving. Trying to jump on the exact spot on those changing spike boxes about 20 times was frustrating T_T Very good all the same.
